Personal information (sometimes referred to as personal data or personally identifiable information) means any information that directly or indirectly identifies you or is reasonably capable of being associated with you or your household. This Privacy Notice applies to personal information we collect online and offline, such as when you use our website, utilize our identity verification services, conduct business dealings with us, or otherwise interact with us (collectively, our “Services”). We also outline our handling of sensitive personal information, which is subject to additional protections under applicable data privacy laws.

Please note that this Privacy Notice is directed at individuals residing and using the Services in the United States. We may provide different or additional notices regarding our privacy practices for personal information collection outside the scope of this Privacy Notice, in which case this Privacy Notice will not apply. This includes situations where you reside outside the United States or use services not covered under this Privacy Notice.

We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the revision date at the top of this Privacy Notice. For more information, visit our [Cookie Policy](https://devcenter.unico.io/privacy/usa/policies/cookies-policy).

Please note that some web browsers incorporate 'Do Not Track' features. Most of these features, when enabled, send a signal or preference to the websites you visit indicating that you do not wish to be tracked. Unico recognizes and processes universal opt-out signals, such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC), in compliance with applicable state privacy laws, including the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), the Colorado Privacy Act, the Connecticut Data Privacy Act, the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, and other state laws requiring recognition of such signals.

To learn more about the categories of personal information and sensitive personal information we disclose and the categories of recipients, please refer to the summary sections below.
* Our Service Providers, contractors, and processors: We may disclose your personal information to service providers, contractors, and processors who perform services on our behalf, such as cloud storage, identity verification, messaging, and technical support.

#### D. Retention of Personal Information

We store personal information for as long as necessary to carry out the purposes for which we originally collected it and for other legitimate business purposes, including to meet our legal, regulatory, or other compliance obligations.

For biometric information retention periods, please refer to [Unico Biometric Data Policy](https://devcenter.unico.io/privacy/usa/policies/unico-biometric-data-policy).

Unico will otherwise maintain personal information by assessing how long it needs to keep the information based on the following criteria: (1) your continued interest or use of our Services; (2) contractual obligations we are subject to; and (3) for defending or asserting legal claims.

### II. Analytics

We allow third parties to provide analytics services on our behalf. These entities may use cookies, device identifiers, and similar technologies to collect information about your use of our Services, including your IP address, web browser, mobile network information, pages viewed, time spent on pages or in mobile apps, links clicked, and conversion metrics. We use this information to analyze usage trends, determine content popularity, and better understand your online activity.

### IV. Children

This website and our Services are not intended for or directed to children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect, sell, share, use for targeted advertising, or disclose personal information from children under 18 years of age.

### VI. Automated Processing

Unico provides identity verification and fraud prevention services using automated processing. When using our Services, you capture a selfie photograph from which we scan facial geometry. From this facial scan, we generate a unique human token, a one-way cryptographic representation used to verify your identity. This human token cannot be reverse-engineered to reconstruct your facial image or facial scan, nor can it be used to identify you outside of our system. We also perform liveness detection to verify that your selfie represents a live individual rather than a photograph, video, mask, or spoofing attempt.

Unico does not conduct profiling to evaluate personal characteristics, preferences, or traits. The human token generation process is automated and operates without manual human review, unless required by our client (the organization with which you are transacting) or during routine audits. We perform continuous testing to ensure external factors do not adversely affect system accuracy. If you have questions regarding verification outcomes, please contact us at <privacy.us@unico.io>. Please note that Unico does not make decisions regarding the provision or denial of services that produce legal or other similarly significant effects.

### VII. Your Privacy Rights

#### A. Summary of Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your state of residence, U.S. data privacy laws may grant you specific rights regarding your personal information:

* Service Provider Role: Regarding the "human token" generated for identity verification, Unico acts strictly as a service provider on behalf of our clients (the data controllers). Requests regarding human token data should be directed to the organization with which you transacted.
* Federal Law Exemptions: Data processed under federal laws such as HIPAA or GLBA is governed by those specific regulations and our clients' privacy policies, not state privacy laws.
* Access & Confirm: Confirm whether we process your personal data and request access to it, including details about biometric information and third-party disclosures.
* Correction & Deletion: Request correction of inaccurate personal information or request deletion of your personal data.
* Opt-Out Rights: Opt out of profiling or automated decision-making. (Note: Unico does not sell your personal data or share it for targeted advertising).
* Sensitive Data Controls: Limit or opt out of the processing of sensitive personal information (such as facial scans), subject to identity verification requirements.
* Non-Discrimination & Appeal: Exercise your rights without discrimination, and appeal any decision if we decline to fulfill a privacy request.

#### B. Exercising Your Rights, Appeals & Authorized Agents

To exercise your privacy rights, request an appeal, or submit a request as an authorized agent, email us at <privacy.us@unico.io>. We will verify your identity (or agent authority) and respond within required legal timeframes (typically 30–45 days). If an appeal is denied, you may contact your state Attorney General.

#### C. California Shine the Light Disclosure

California law permits residents of California to request certain details about how their information is shared with third parties for direct marketing purposes. If you are a California resident and would like to make such a request, please contact us at <privacy.us@unico.io>.
